I started playing Habbo in 2008 which explains the childish username "monlyluv88", i cannot even tell you how I made that up. This was around the same time that people my age were playing Club Penguin, Poptropica, Neopets and Gaia Online. I always wanted to play the cooler sim games but my parents would not let me, or it costed money to play, or it had mature themes. I think of Zwinky, IMVU, and Secondlife specifically. I like how platforms like these used to mimic social interactions by giving you an avatar and allowing you to chat or interact with other players live. The opportunity for social interaction is higher and more satisfying than making a post in isolation and waiting for likes to come in later, which i find more common in app-based social media platforms.
I have been on HABBO.COM since 2008, this is what my setup currently looks like. yes i spent money on it mind ur business im not dropping hundreds
HABBO: Origins was released a few months ago as a small side project. the intentions were to recreate Habbo as it existed in 2005 when the game first released. this takes a way a shit ton of features that habbo.com has - a massive catalogue of 20 years of furniture and exclusive releases, "coin furni" (which set an economical standard within the game), graphics, you name it. ORIGINS is stripped down to its original form - a small catalogue of furnishings, basic controls and a smaller screen size (a large client is in the works), PLUS no mobile version - this is a desktop only game.
this was seen as a cash grab to many, and it probably was. i downloaded it out of curiosity around 1-2 months after release and ive been hooked. the community is MUCH smaller (i havent seen more than 600ppl online), so you bump into the same people often. The people you bump into are usually veterans of the original Habbo so theyre between like 25-40yrs old. it usually feels like youre playing with adults. Rare furniture and limited editions are put up for purchase on tuesdays and fridays, and there are independent sites that track the value of these pieces, so you can use them to trade with other people (HOWEVER THERE HAS BEEN SOME SHADE). since this is a small side project, the users are putting in more work to keep the community alive. people are streaming this on twitch, doing giveaways on discord and twitter, and hosting games for people to play (Ive created a game room to host virtual bingo).
I have been on Habbo: Origins for around 2 months. This is my setup so far (yes i spent money mind your business although i will say that it is foreal more expensive than .com)
