I LOVE TINASHE

Tinashe is one of my favorite artists, she's been on my radar for 10 years now. I remember walking around my community college campus listening to the hits off of her debut album Amethyst - Cold Sweat, All Hands on Deck, 2 On, Deep in the night (interlude) and Bet were my favorite tracks. She released a Mixtape called Amethyst a few months later, and it was unlike anything I have ever heard until that moment - it felt clean, concise, and more attuned to the message and aesthetic Tinashe wanted to give at that time than the debut. 10 years later, I still consider this her most exciting project.

I was never a pop girl stan until it came to Tinashe, and although i have been listenieng since high school, the stanning didnt really happen until a few years ago when 333 was released. I really love her fan-base, When I got to see her live last year, everyone in the crowd knew her music, everyone was hot, everyone was queer, everyone was dancing along with her. Given this new wave of recongnition for Tinashe in the past 2 years, The SweeTees seem much more welcoming than some other pop stans. They're excited to show new fans her extensive log of music and talk about her evolution as an artist, which I love to see.

My parents listened to a lot of hip hop & R+B when I was growing up, but having artists who are closer to my age make their songs feel more relatable, with similar messages that my parents yearned for in music, but updated to the times that I live in. I feel like her 5th album 333 is what initially set her off, her second self-released album after cutting ties with her label RCA. She really rose to the limelight within the past year.

Tinashe dropped her project BB/ANG3L right when I was flying back from Belgium last September, and I distinctly remember getting lost to this sonic universe that felt so stripped down, easy to digest, and representative of a level of vulnerability and authenticity that people my age, including myself, were actively looking for in others and within ourselves. since then, Tinashe managed to take this album on tour, landed a Tiny Desk concert that was incredible, plus she dropped a visualizer for the album back in February with FULL choreography called the BB/ANG3L Experience. The same choreo was used on tour, so it felt like a mini concert that she had directed for her fans. Tinashe emphasized her desire for fans to take their time digesting her music. She dropped the project in September and worked her ass of since then, creating a universe with music, dance, video direction, and fashion.

BB/ANG3L is a part of a trilogy Tinshe is working on, and we are now getting a look into part II of this trilogy with Quantum BB. Her first single from the project "Nasty" was teased on IG Live back in February, dropped on April 12, and EXPLODED within the past 2 months. She just released a video for her second single "Getting No Sleep" last week.

***Tinashe's albums are hard to come by - I'm lucky to have downloads of all of her mixtapes + copies of BB/ANG3L, Joyride, and Aquarius on CD. Songs For You and 333 were self-funded, and copies of her CDs and Vinyl currently go for hundreds of dollars on reseller markets. if anyone has either of these for the low HIT ME UP.
